Founding of LUCC

Tuesday, 12 October, 2010

Last night, Monday 11th October, the founding session of the London Universities Conservative Council (LUCC) was held at UCLSU. The meeting was attended by the Chairmen of LSE, UCL, QMU, London Met, BPP and City University Conservative societies. This comes after I announced my intention at an informal meeting with the University Chairmen in early September to increase the representation of Conservative Students in London. The Council enables a more streamlined pooling of ideas and better cooperation between Universities as well as stronger representation to Conservative Future.

At the founding session the principles of LUCC were discussed and debated and William Hall (UCL) was elected as the Chairman of the Council. The Council Chairman does not have authority over the Council but as its elected representative replaces the previously appointed London CF position of Universities Officer. Kit Friend, the London CF Regional Chairman’s appointed advisor, was ratified by the Council. Kit’s experience with the NUS and as GLA Student Volunteering Coordinator at City Hall will be invaluable to this new body.

We look forward to seeing what new initiatives to enrich the experience of student Conservatives in London the Council can develop and how this new unity can strengthen the position of one of Conservative Future’s largest membership bodies.
